The Climate Challenge Fund forms part of the Scottish Government’s Sustainable Action Fund. The Climate Challenge Fund is managed by Keep Scotland Beautiful and made funding of £37.7million available to communities across the four financial years 2008-12.
Since its creation, the CCF has supported 345 communities across Scotland to take action on climate change this action includes a wide range of activities, including increasing energy efficiency of homes and community buildings, helping communities to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste, encouraging the use of low carbon transport and active travel options, and the consumption and production of local foods.
The Scottish Government’s spending review has confirmed that the CCF will continue to support communities in this way. £10.3 million will be available to Scottish communities for each of the next three years to 31 March 2015.
A proportion of the CCF will support projects run by and for young people; this activity will be titled the Junior Climate Challenge Fund.
Applications are now being invited from Scottish communities for activities that will take place between now and 31 March 2015.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on 2nd December 2011 (Fri).

MoreBritish Council supports schools in Scotland to make connections in Europe and globally and provide a wide variety of opportunities including accreditation and grants for CPD, exchange visits, work placements abroad and joint curriculum project work with partner schools.
The following up-coming opportunities and deadlines are opened to any school in Scotland in order to develop new and existing global connections:
Connecting Classrooms: Project with schools in the Middle East– Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates. Deadline: 21 October
Schools with existing China school partnerships can also apply on 21 October to receive funding to develop joint curriculum work and involve students in partner visits.

£250 is available for staff costs, travel and subsistence to explore the idea of long term equitable partnerships with schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

MoreCSV is offering grants from £50 to £250 to projects in Scotland which will help support and encourage Scottish biodiversity through practical environmental projects. There will be three types of grant available to projects in Scotland this year:
- Action Earth Express Grant - is an easy to access grant of up to £50 available to any group of volunteers carrying out practical environmental work in their local community in Scotland.
- SNH Biodiversity Grant - offers up to £250 for projects that are improving or creating habitats for wildlife which will enhance biodiversity in Scotland.
- SNH Local Nature Reserve Grant - offers awards of up to £500 for activities taking place on LNRs, which celebrate the work carried out on the site and raise the local profile of the site.

MoreA groundbreaking fund allowing local people to come together to shape their neighbourhood, has recently opened. The new £9 million Community Spaces Scotland scheme from the Big Lottery Fund is set to rejuvenate local areas from Dumfries to Dingwall. From developing allotments, parks and community gardens through to improving village halls and community centres, the fund will improve local spaces and places, providing somewhere better for people to come together to be healthier, happier and more active.
