Learning and Teaching Scotland has produced a new online resource exploring the rich historic and cultural links between Scotland and Canada. The ‘Scots and Canada’ resource explores key aspects of the connections between these two nations, such as the emigration of Scots from the Highlands and the establishment of new communities in Nova Scotia. The Scots and Canada resource is available in both English and Gaelic and forms part of the broader web resource entitled Scotland’s History.
The resource was launched by Cabinet Secretary Michael Russell MSP on his recent visit to North America. A Scottish Government news story gives details.
MoreLTS is inviting applications from Scottish teachers for a SCIPD group study visit to Nova Scotia, Canada, in October 2009. The theme is Homecoming, and the teaching of culture and history, and takes advantage of the shared history and cultural expression of Scotland and Nova Scotia. This visit has been developed to complement the Scottish Government’s Homecoming 2009 programme and to contribute to its educational legacy.
Full details will appear on the LTS International Education website this week.
More Assessment is the theme for two new SCIPD group study visits being offered to Scottish education staff by Learning and Teaching Scotland. One group will visit New Zealand in March 2009, and the other will visit Manitoba in April 2009.
Both groups of professionals will investigate innovative approaches to the assessment of literacy, numeracy, and health and wellbeing in the context of Curriculum for Excellence.
Details of both professional development opportunities are available from the LTS International Education website.
