dailywhatlogo‘The Daily What’- the all new Glow schools’ news service- will be launched in August in association with our partners for the service, The Herald group and Tinopolis Interactive. In the meantime, we really need user feedback on initial designs for the news service. We are always keen to find out what Glow users think and we will try to recommend changes accordingly.

There is a working prototype (with limited functionality at this point) that will give you a good idea of page layout, content and navigation elements. Please remember that very few links will work at this stage, but you should get a good idea of how the service will look when it is launched.

The prototype can be accessed here: http://www.dailywhat.org.uk/prototype/index.html

We have created a National Glow group for the service, with a particular focus for the moment on collecting feedback. If you have time, we would very much appreciate feedback from Glow users. There are several forum posts which ask specific questions and invite voting from users.

These forum posts can be accessed individually from the main Noticeboard of the Glow group, or by going to the ‘Tell us what you think’ page. There is also an email link, if you would prefer to email your thoughts, and a document store, if you would prefer to create a document of feedback and upload it to Glow. The Glow group also contains images of the prototype page designs.

Whichever option you decide to use, we really do appreciate Glow users taking the time to share their views. Remember, if we find out what you think now, we can make changes before the August launch.

Tuesday 22nd June saw the biggest Glow Meet to date, with almost 200 schools from across Scotland and approximately 6,000 pupils logging in to see Steven Moffat, the lead Writer and executive Producer from Doctor Who television programme and Nick Briggs, the voice of the Cybermen and Daleks.

The Glow Meet came live from Gavinburn Primary School in West Dunbartonshire, where pupils from Primary 3 to 7 all gathered in the assembly hall to have a question and answer session with Steven and Nick. Before the event pupils were encouraged to post questions they would like answered on the Doctor Who Glow Group, and some of these questions were selected and answered live during the Glow Meet. Just as the Question and Answer session was about to begin. Two Cybermen stormed into the assembly hall! It was all very exciting!
For those of you who missed the event (or would like to view it again) the Glow Meet recording will be made available soon in the Doctor Who Glow Group … so watch this space! Also, remember to visit the Glow Group and upload any new Doctor Who character you have been creating.

To find out more about the event visit The BBC Website.
The Glow Team would like to thank Gillian Penny, the head teacher from Gavinburn Primary to inviting us along to this event and the BBC Wales for making this event possible.

In collaboration with the Scottish Space School, join this exclusive opportunity to talk to Nick Patrick and Heather Paul from NASA using Glow Meet.

Nick is an astronaut who has performed three space walks and lived on the International Space Station. Heather is a space suit engineer and knows everything there is to know about making it possible for astronauts to survive in the void of space.

Tune in to the Glow Meet to watch Nick, Heather and pupils from Fintry Primary School run a simulation to move a robotic land rover around the surface of Mars. This will mimic what real astronauts have to do when they collect samples from the surface of Mars using the robots Spirit and Opportunity. These rovers have amassed a vast amount of information and we have learnt huge amounts about the planet Mars.

To learn about Mars before meeting Nick and Heather, pupils can have a look at the Glow Science films about Life on Mars by LL Online. This event will be suitable for middle primary upwards.

Visit the National Sciences Glow group to find out more about this Glow Meet and how to get involved.
