Dragons are coming

Finalists for the LTS does Dragons’ Den competition at The Scottish Learning Festival have been decided.

Pitches will be heard from:

  • Meldrum Academy, Aberdeenshire
  • St Marys PS, Dundee
  • Gavinburn PS, West Dunbartonshire
  • Lairdsland PS, East Dunbartonshire.

LTS does ‘Dragon’s Den’ at SLF 09

If you’ve got an idea for a computer game or a character that could capture the imagination of game players, then this year’s LTS does ‘Dragon’s Den’ competition could be your opportunity to showcase your ideas to a panel of experts. Radiowaves at SLF

Young Radiowaves reporters will, again, be out and about during SLF, interviewing  speakers and presenters.

Pupils from 2 schools in Fife will record, edit and publish their interviews live from the SECC.  The schools were chosen from the winners of the End of Term Awards 2009.

Examples of previous work

Pupils were asked to create an audio documentary about environmental issues. They scripted, recorded and edited these pieces with music and sound effects.

We look forward to hearing the results this year.

Channel 4 update to session

Channel 4 logoChannel 4 Education  have updated the details of their Educational Briefing.

On Thursday 25 Sepember they are hosting 3 sessions starting at 12.30 with a networking lunch.
At 1.15 there is ‘Sex-Ed Up! discussing “How and when should we teach our children about sex?”
At 2.30 there is the C4 Education Showcase launching a series of new projects which are breaking new ground in public service broadcasting, education and the use of social networking services.

The Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus

The Scottish Cooking Bus

The Scottish Cooking Bus will be stationed in the exhibition hall in the new Health and Wellbeing Zone on both days.  A wide range of activities will take place on the bus, including pupil workshops. Further details to follow soon.

The Scottish Cooking Bus is funded by the Scottish Government in partnership with the Food Standards Agency (Scotland). The aim of the cooking bus is:

  • To inform healthy eating messages to school children in an engaging way by providing interactive cooking sessions during term time and taking part in projects during the school holidays.
  • To take account of the needs and views of disadvantaged groups and reduce inequalities by enabling and encouraging cooking skills and giving people confidence and independent living skills.

“Here we come!”

Channel 4 logoWe are pleased to announce that Channel 4 Education, one of our lead sponsors, are giving an Educational Showcase with the title of “Here we come!” Channel 4 Education Showcase.

Matt Locke, Commissioning Editor and his team will be available to showcase some of the innovative, cross platform projects, games and web based services they are commissioning for 2008/9.  They will be focussing on issues derived from young people’s needs and desires that may be outside the more formal education curriculum.
