Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week is Scotland’s largest celebration of school sport and is taking place from 6-10 June 2011. The week will be officially launched this Monday at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium and some high profile Olympians will be there to inspire and encourage over 700 children from 25 schools across Glasgow as they take part in a day of sporting activity and attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most people running 100m in a one hour relay. London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic mascots Wenlock and Mandeville will also be on hand to entertain and inspire!
School registration has soared in 2011, with over 1,300 schools registered to take part during a week of Olympic and Paralympic inspired sport. This is almost double the number of schools that participated in the event’s inaugural year, 2010, when 735 schools took part and just under 50% of all primary and secondary schools in Scotland. The theme for 2011 is Personal Best, with pupils across Scotland invited to achieve their personal best in an Olympic or Paralympic sport, individually, with their class or club and at every level and standard.
