Seminar C1A cancelled

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, seminar C1A: Building the Curriculum: A Framework for Assessment had to be cancelled.

The SLF team apologises for any disappointment caused, and hope that you will find plenty to interest you within the rest of the programme.

Glow Meet success

The national Glow Meet with Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning was a real success.

Over 700 pupils and teachers joined in to hear the Cabinet Secretary speak about why she is proud to be Scottish. She then took questions from the Glow audience, hearing from classes from as far apart as Shetland and Dumfries and Galloway.

SLFtalk – audio publishing by attendees

SLFtalk  is a digital audio project for the Scottish Learning Festival.

Cards like this will be distributed at the event to give people the details needed to publish reflections, conversations and discussions – using mobile devices.

Dragons are coming

Finalists for the LTS does Dragons’ Den competition at The Scottish Learning Festival have been decided.

Pitches will be heard from:

  • Meldrum Academy, Aberdeenshire
  • St Marys PS, Dundee
  • Gavinburn PS, West Dunbartonshire
  • Lairdsland PS, East Dunbartonshire.

Guitar Hero finalists for SLF’09

See who is top of the leaderboard, posted on the Consolarium blog.

Groups from Baldragon Academy (winners last year) and Morgan Academy from Dundee and Cathkin High School from South Lanarkshire will be taking part in the Guitar Hero Challenge at the The Scottish Learning Festival.

This session is one of the Education Showcases and takes place on Wednesday 23 September at 16:00 pm.

The session is on Wednesday 23 September from 11 am - 12 pm in the Rockwell room of the adjoining Crowne Plaza hotel.

Getting teenagers excited about learning languages – Andy Cowle

The session is on Wednesday 23 September from 12 – 1 pm in the Rockwell room of the adjoining Crowne Plaza hotel.

SuperClubsPLUS – Catriona Dormand

The session is on Wednesday 23 September, 10 – 10.45 am and Thursday 24 September, 10  - 10.45 am in the Rockall Room of the adjoining Crowne Plaza hotel.

Scholastic are on stand H15 in Exhibition Hall, where you can save money with special offers on teacher resources and pick up the new Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler picture book ‘Tabby McTat’.

Scholastic will host seminars F1B and F1C.

More spaces for Literacy seminar D2A

Seminar D2A: Literacy across Learning in the Secondary School: The Experiences and Outcomes In Practice takes place on  Wednesday 23 September
 at 9:30 am.

This seminar was fully booked, but now more spaces have been made available. Please go to the seminar page and add it to your wish list.

Please note that examples of practice will be taken from Secondary schools.

SLF 2009 channel on Radiowaves

Young Radiowaves reporters from Rimbleton Primary School and Kirkcaldy High School are looking forward to visiting SLF 2009  and interviewing V.I.P.s, teachers, guests and even some exhibitors.

The interviews will be posted on the Scottish Learning Festival channel on the Radiowaves website.

Glow Meet with the Cabinet Secretary

In advance of her keynote speech at SLF 2009, Fiona Hyslop will be hosting a Glow Meet for Scottish schools from Gavinburn Primary School in West Dunbartonshire.

The Glow Meet will take place on the September 15, 2009 between 1pm and 2pm.  Ms Hyslop will be speaking about why she is proud to be Scottish. She is inviting pupils from schools across the country to contribute by asking questions via Glow Meet.
