French boy who translated Harry Potter 7 faces charges

A French 16-year-old who published a fan-translation of the last Harry Potter novel was jailed overnight and now faces charges for copyright infringement.

The boy, who wanted to save French children from spoilers, translated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when he discovered that the official French translation would take three months. He had grown concerned that bilingual readers would have months to accidentally (or maliciously) spoiler their friends’ experiences.

I suppose that technically speaking he did break the law but his intentions, I believe, were honourable to say the least.
