Percy the Puffin’s Homecoming

img_1166.jpg

Emily Dodd, Education Officer for the Scottish Seabird Centre, will tell the story of Percy the Puffin and his homecoming to early years pupils, in Glow meet. You can join her while she tells this story in her classroom, in N. Berwick. If you are an  early years practitioner, not just in East Lothian, who would like to take part in this national event, go to the Early Years National Glow Group and join us in Glow meet.

The story is a whole class activity and ideal for introducing pupils in nursery classes to Glow. Look out for news in Glow and join us on the morning of  Wednesday the 18th of March. Come into Glow to hear more about Percy’s homecoming and adventures in the Firth of Forth. Further details about Percy and other stories can be found in the Scottish Seabird Centre website:

http://www.seabird.org/education-nursery.asp

Teachers will need a projector, web camera and computer, with marrratech software (a whiteboard can also be useful). If you are a new user in Glow more information about using Glow meet can be found at:

http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/glowscotland/trainingmaterials/index.asp

If you are an early years practitioner and intend to take part in this Glow meet event, you can also ask questions in the Early Years National Glow Group. Ask questions in ‘Discussions’. Alternatively you  can ask for support from a local Glow mentor. Further support is available from your Local Authority and at National Level. Find out more about Glow in your Local Area at:

http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/glowscotland/localauthorities/index.asp

This Glow meet will be facilitated by  Martin Brown and Stuart Oliphant from the LTS Glow team.  For further information contact m.brown@ltscotland.org.uk.

I’m Early Years staff tutor in Dundee and am really excited about this project. We are in the process of getting web cams installed in our 10 nursery schools and were planning to launch video conferencing by using our writer in residence to tell stories. We also plan to use the facility to promote transition – P1 conferencing with feeder nurseries. All very exciting.
Will definitely have some early years settings joining in to find out about Percy’s homecoming.

Hi Theresa that is what we were hoping for. Great stuff. It would also be helpful if you could let me know which schools or classess might be taking part on the day.
If you would like some help from the National Glow team contact myself:
m.brown@ltscotland.org.uk or the LTS Glow Development Officer for Dundee T.Stevens@ltscotland.org.uk

I am an EYP in Dundee and this sounds fantastic! We are about to initiate web conferencing with neighbouring early years settings, and as Theresa mentioned, have other projects planned for webcams and conferencing. I’m definitely interested in this, and look forward to finding out, with our children, about Percy’s homecoming!

The nursery class at Forthill Primary in Dundee really enjoyed ‘meeting’ Emily and Percy. We all had a great time and one of our parent helpers thought it was great. Thank you for organising this event. We would be happy to ‘meet’ more interesting characters.

Alison, I am really pleased to hear that your chidren enjoyed hearing about Percy. We had a great time watching in Stirling Managment Cente. I was there with the Glow Key Contacts. 64 schools and over 1300 pupils took part in the Glow meet with Emily Dodd. Many thanks for your input. It just goes to show how much demand there is out there for Early Years participation in Glow!

P1 pupils at St. James’s, Paisley loved it too. I’m off to post a few photos on the group. They especially loved how interactive it was and enjoyed being “splashed” with water as they “landed” in the sea!
