Future for the EeePC?

Andrew Roland is telling us about the great uses already in Westlands Kent, and Dartford Grammar in Kent. Huge potential for the EeePC as a 1:1 for their learning platforms. Access and use of content changes radically , when ration of devices is significantly higher.

Interesting to note that RM will be selling a miniBook with XP and a higher spec, for those LAs that have more interest in running Microsoft machines on their network.

It’s also possible to install OSX or Vista on these devices? This was displayed at TeachMeet at BETT a few weeks ago:

Really like this, and being Linux lots of thngs you can do. CTRL-ALT-T gives you a console from where you can do the normal linux command line stuff.

The speed is very impressive, browsing is fast, the java implementation is speedy and coped very well with my java based vpn client.

My biggest gripe about it so far is that the touch pad is not very responsive to clicks and double clicks, although I believe the speed can be adjusted. However, the metal left and right click bar is stiff and after half an hour’s use I am starting to get a blister on my thumb :-(
