Shetland, sunshine, seafood and CfE

Comments: none

Shetland Oct 09v2Great to see so many colleagues and to have the chance for lots of great conversations at the Shetland “Curriculum for Excellence: Let’s implement” event last week. It was a pleasure to be part of these two days of workshops, team meetings and chat based at the Anderson High School. I had a great meeting with Maggie Spence and Sarah Henry of Shetland Council about CPD and leadership development, debated the value and purpose of keynote presentations with Eddie Broadley, discussed leadership and Learning Rounds with Fiona Carlisle of HMIE and shared thinking about CfE and how it’s all going with Hilda de Felice of Learning Unlimited.

And if that wasn’t enough – we also had glorious late autumn sunshine.

Plans are well advanced for our ‘let’s make a fuss of CPD coordinators and other CPD leaders’ campaign at the Scottish Learning Festival. The aim is to give CPD Leaders an opportunity to address their own professional development needs in leading CfE developments.

CPD coordinators, members of the CPD Network, EIS Learning Reps and other CPD leaders from all over Scotland will be getting an email from Margaret Alcorn sometime in June.

The email will explain how to make sure you get that CPD Leader identifier on your Festival registration badge. This identifier will get you access to the CPD Lounge, Magnificent Sevens, CPDAnswers Live, the launch of CPDLead and all the other extras arranged for CPD leaders. We have asked our CPD network to help us contact every CPD coordinator and EIS Learning Rep in Scotland but you can always make sure your name is on the list by:

  • registering for the Scottish Learning Festival
  • emailing Ruth slfcpd@cosla.gov.uk and ask to be put on the CPD Leader mailing list

We look forward to seeing you there!

The CPD Lounge will be the hub of the additional activities for CPD coordinators at SLF09. Here you will be able to:

  • get a chance to talk to other CPD leaders about the professional learning challenges of Curriculum for Excellence
  • take part in the ‘Magnificent Sevens’ (7 minute seminars featuring CPD leaders from all airts and pairts). Come and show us how CfE development is happening in your pairt!
  • ask a question of (and maybe even get an answer from ;) ) leading CPD experts in CPDAnswers live
  • meet other leaders at our CPD Breakfast (where CPDLead will be launched)
  • or just get away from the milling masses and put your feet up and have a refreshment on us!

To get access to the lounge, you will need to have a badge that identifies you as a CPD leader. See the CPD Leaders post for more details.

The CPD team have a ‘help’ blog that helps to answer questions that have been posted about CPD matters, CPDAnswers. Part of the CPD Team offering for the Scottish Learning Festival will include an opportunity to drop into the CPD Lounge and ask a question of a member of the National CPD Team and volunteer members of the CPD Network.

Do you want to know about CfE rollout in other parts of Scotland? Do you want to know about innovative CPD for CfE; coaching, online, action research? Come in and ask!

We may not have all the answers but we are keen to have the conversation and we can make the right connections for you. There is also an option to update the CPDAnswers blog so your question will be recorded for others to benefit!

Work is underway to build an online, professional community for CPD leaders throughout  Scotland. The community (on Glow) will be called CPDLead and will be launched as part of the National CPD Team offering at Scottish Learning Festival 2009.  CPDLead will be an important tool for us CPD leaders in the professional learning programme in Curriculum for Excellence because it gives us access to the most important resource, each other!

To mark the occasion, we will be having a breakfast event for CPD Leaders on Thursday 24th September.  Keep your eyes on the cpd@slf09 posts on the CPD Team Blog for more information
