On Wednesday, I was at a Web Champions shindig in South Ayrshire Council, an event based around the format the CPD Team pioneered at the Building Windmills event last year. I followed Katie Barrowman of the Glow team who was running a Glow Treasure Hunt, great fun! I used the subject of CPD tools for CfE to introduce a series of CPD-based challenges. You can see my Prezis below and the challenges are in (or under development ) in the CPDChallenge Glow group.
Andrew Brown challenges you to tell the world immediately about your work and to start (and contribute to) educational discussions

3. write your 1st post (see challenge 2)
CPDReflect is the online PRD toolkit from LTScotland to help educators reflect on their work. Con Morris challenges you to start looking at this valuable toolkit What does it involve?

2. have a play
3. add an example from your own area of practice
Would you like to cut down on your travelling, meet people you can’t usually meet or take part in a CPD event without leaving the comfort of your own home? Katie Barrowman challenges you to learn about Glowmeet!
In summer 2009, some members of the Glow team and I ran CPDChallenge sessions for LTScotland development officers. Many took up the offer and rose admirably to the challenge! It took the best part of a working day. The format was:
each challenge was introduced in 5 minutes by a ‘champion’
participants had a free choice of one or more challenges
participants worked collaboratively with help from champions if needed
end-of-session sharing was compulsory and randomly chosen!
each person had to publish a pledge to change 1 thing in his/her practice
a library of challenges with video introductions and self-help support
resources shared as a result
pledges made by participants to date
even guidance on how to run a CPDChallenge event in your area
The challenges have since been used in other events (eg Inverness workshop and Building Windmills in South Ayrshire) and hopefully will be used in many more.
What now for CPDChallenge?
The CPD Team pledge to have a challenge for every week of 2010. We only have 9 in the bank, so that’s 43 challenges to go! We would love to hear from others to help us out! The early challenges are mainly about online CPD but we are looking to widen our horizons. So if you have a good idea for a challenge, contact Con Morris and he will get you started.
These challenges started out as a way of challenging LTScotland development officers to improve their practice. Many rose admirably to the challenge! The challenges have since been used in other events (eg Inverness workshop) so feel free to try one by yourself or with colleagues. The only thing I ask you is to spend 2 minutes sharing how you might change your practice as a result (see Challenge 10 below).
