Evaluating the impact of CPD

Click to read the Draft paper on the evaluation of the impact of CPD

The attached draft paper from the CPD team considers:

• The importance of self-evaluation to individual teachers, schools and local authorities
• The place of the evaluation of CPD within the overall context of self-evaluation
• Some theory
• The overlap between theory and existing thinking in Scotland
• Five levels of evaluation: how and when applied
• The evaluation of significant inputs made, or of outputs sought only
• Practical strategies in techniques of evaluation, noting those already in use in Scotland
• Some recommendations for action
Please feel free to comment on the blog or directly to the CPD team.

Many thanks

John

Thanks for this. I have been using a version of this to evaluate impact of some CPD. I have created a simplified version of Guskey’s 5 levelswhich allows for both evaluative and quantitative feedback. I am willing to share with anyone who is interested. I use this after a period of three months at least to allow for some use and for evidence of impact to be available.

Thank you for this Irene. It would be good to get a look at the materials you have produced. Would you be interested in joining a group, led by Gillian Brydson, looking at producing some guidlines re Impact using the Kirkpatrick and Gusky models?
