Glowmeet
21st June
I have just ‘popped in’ to say “hello” at a CPD event in Dundee. The fact that I am in Glasgow and the presenter, Andrew Brown, is in Helensburgh will tell you I was using some sort of web conference.
The event is a mentor training pilot for Glow in Dundee. Andrew is leading a session on e-mentoring, using techniques based on the work of Ellen Moir and Janet Gless at the New Teacher Center, University of California Santa Cruz.
And the tool? Glowmeet which will be part of the Glow provision starting next session. Can’t wait!

I love the whole concept of web meeting rooms. The fact that this is a service that will be freely available to everyone involved in state education in Scotland is a complete bonus! Imagine using this in a classroom, where you have invited the author of a book in as a special guest - the author however joins via an internet connection from their home in America, whilst your class ask questions from Scotland.
I was speaking about using technology to assist in Mentoring. If you are interested in this, why not get in touch with the CPD coordinator in your local authority to find out more about coaching and mentoring opportunities happening near you that you could take part in?

I heard some preliminary feedback from Neil Stewart of the Glow team. It speaks for itself. Well done, Andrew and many thanks also to David Johnstone (of Dundee City Council)!
“The words inspiring, fantastic and relevant were all used to describe your session. It served the 2 intended purposes perfectly i.e. showing the potential of Glow Meet and highlighting their role as Glow mentors. The final link with their CPD contact David rounded the whole session off beautifully and I think that will allow Dundee to take a holistic approach to the roll out of Glow.” Neil Stewart
