Scottish Education Awards 2007
What a brilliant atmosphere at Glasgow City Halls last week, with hundreds of excited and happy pupils, and just as many happy and excited teachers. It was a joy to be part of such a positive and happy atmosphere, and on behalf of the team, I offer our warmest congratulations to everyone who reached the finals, and in particular to the individual award winners. For those of you who couldn’t be there, these were:
- Kent Pledger of Mid Calder Primary, Educational Supporter of the Year, an ICT technician who is making a real difference in his school
- Laura Cooper of Larbert High School, Probationary Teacher of the Year
- Iain Hirschfeld of Inverkeithing High School, the enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of the Year
- Patricia Kennedy of St Mark’s Primary who is our Headteacher of the Year
- Ann McLanachan, headteacher of Longniddry Primary, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Good luck to all of them in the National Finals in London later this year.
Full details of all the winners can be found in the Education Awards web site

I agree it was a great event! – now how about a CPD Course on table top magic, balloon modelling or getting aside a giant green balloon. These three aspects of the event had the children from Musselburgh captivated – it could be the answer to all of out behavioural difficulties in schools?
Seriously though, we really enjoyed the educational awards and we hope we will see you there again next year! OB

Congratulations to all teachers, but especially to Ann McLannachan, Headteacher of Longniddry Primary in East Lothian.
Ann has been an inspiration ~ and as a parent I am delighted that my children have had the chance to come under her leadership. A more passionate and compassionate woman you couldn’t hope to meet.
All the best with your retirement Ann, and know that we’ll miss your cheery face and tapping feet!
