Who can join the Learning Rounds online community on Glow?

Any educator interested in, leading or taking part in a Learning Round should join the LR online community on Glow. Here you will find:

colleagues in the same boat as you!
resources to organise a learning round
where learning rounds are taking place

To take part in this community, you must commit to:

introducing yourself online
contribute in some way to the resource bank

To join this community, send an email to stepin@ltscotland.org.uk with your name and Glow username (eg gw09lennierounds). Susan our online CPD administrator will email you with a link.

What is a Learning Round?

Learning Rounds is a new kind of collaborative professional learning. It involves teams of staff observing and learning about and from school practice. Observers create a base of evidence describing what they have seen. There are no evaluative comments or value-laden points. The team then discusses how they, their school or authority will use the data to bring about improvement.

This evidence-based process leads to a continuous development of practice at personal, school and authority level. Staff learn together and both those observed and those observing develop and deepen their understanding of how to improve learning. As importantly, the process creates descriptive evidence that can generate effective change across a school or authority.

What is a CPDGizmo?

The Glow network, now available in most Scottish schools and beyond, is largely made up of a series of web-parts. Think of them as lego pieces and you won’t go far wrong. There are Glow web-parts to deliver news, web meetings, chat sessions etc.

CPDGizmos are a collection of web-parts with a CPD purpose, that you can add to your own school or CPD area in Glow.

They include:

feeds from CPDFind
mini-versions of CPDReflect and CPDFind
information from Teachers TV etc

How can I become a registered CPD provider?

Please contact CPD Register admin (cpdregister@LTScotland.org.uk) for more information on becoming a registered CPD provider. It’s as simple as that! The next stages are

You will receive an application form and a request asking for 2 referees
When the form is returned, the referees will be asked to complete a short reference
If all is well, then you will be admitted onto the Register and you can enter opportunities directly into the CPDFind database

CPDFind is a national database of CPD opportunities which has been developed as part of the collaboration between the National CPD Team and LTScotland.

CPDMeet uses Glowmeet technology; webconferencing with computers and webcams. It allows people to interact using video, audio and a shared whiteboard space.

You will need:

a Glow username
a computer with a microphone and a webcam. (Many modern laptops have these built in)

The best thing to do is to have a wee play a couple of days before the real CPDMeet starts. You can also get support from your local Glow mentor or contact Susan Lafferty (s.lafferty@ltscotland.org.uk). Susan runs practice sessions on Glowmeet.
