Learning Rounds is a new kind of collaborative professional learning. It involves teams of staff observing and learning about and from school practice. Observers create a base of evidence describing what they have seen. There are no evaluative comments or value-laden points. The team then discusses how they, their school or authority will use the data to bring about improvement.

This evidence-based process leads to a continuous development of practice at personal, school and authority level. Staff learn together and both those observed and those observing develop and deepen their understanding of how to improve learning. As importantly, the process creates descriptive evidence that can generate effective change across a school or authority.

You can find out more in the Learning Rounds category of the CPD Team blog and on the SCSSA website.

The Glow network, now available in most Scottish schools and beyond, is largely made up of a series of web-parts. Think of them as lego pieces and you won’t go far wrong. There are Glow web-parts to deliver news, web meetings, chat sessions etc.

CPDGizmos are a collection of web-parts with a CPD purpose, that you can add to your own school or CPD area in Glow.

They include:

feeds from CPDFind

mini-versions of CPDReflect and CPDFind

information from Teachers TV etc

See for yourself the library of CPDGizmos on Glow

CPDFind is a national database of CPD opportunities which has been developed as part of the collaboration between the National CPD Team and LTScotland.

If you are looking for CPD, for most users it’s usually a 3 – step process:

type in a search term. CPDFind will search the database of CPD opportunities to let you…

browse the results and add the ones that interest you to a wishlist. You can then…

email or download the wishlist for your CPD plan

CPDMeet uses Glowmeet technology; webconferencing with computers and webcams. It allows people to interact using video, audio and a shared whiteboard space.

You will need:

a Glow username

a computer with a microphone and a webcam. (Many modern laptops have these built in)

Here is a guide for CPDMeet newbies!

The best thing to do is to have a wee play a couple of days before the real CPDMeet starts. You can also get support from your local Glow mentor or contact Susan Lafferty (s.lafferty@ltscotland.org.uk). Susan runs practice sessions on Glowmeet.

So, don’t be feart! Jump in, and if you’re not convinced here’s a wee recording of a bit of a recent informal Glowmeet we call a CPDBlether!
