A CPD-focussed community which uses some or all of the CPDCentral features to ‘crank up’ the collegiality in the community. If I am a potential member of a CPD community, there are a number of benefits:
- I introduce myself just the once and can then take part in several CPD communities
- I can upload an item and share it across across several appropriate CPD programmes / communities
- it standardises the way I engage with CPD on Glow and removes some of the barriers to collegiality
For CPD community facilitators, there are benefits too:
- it cuts down time on footering with Glow web-parts and lets you concentrate on the CPD
- the I-intend system helps promote real, evidenced impact from your all hard work; “if it’s not happening in the classroom, it’s not happening” – Richard Elmore
- it increases interaction; “lurking is not a collegiate activity” – Con Morris
If you want to register for / learn more about CPDCentral affiliation, you can find out more on (you’ve guessed it!) CPDCentral!

Note the following instructions can help with I-intend on other CPD communities too.
To mark an intention as complete, all you have to do is edit the intention and change the Progress to Complete.
Here’s how:
-
Go to your CPDMe page on CPDCentral (or the I-intend page on your CPD community)
- Look for the intention you want to change
- Select the Edit icon above the intention. It looks like this

- Scroll to the Progress column and change to Complete
- Add evidence of completion of the intention. This will help other colleagues in the community
- Scroll back up and select Save and Close
If you need more time, then edit the date instead to a more suitable date.

I-intend is one of the services available to members of CPDCentral. Using this feature, you can declare intentions and share them with other members of CPDCentral. All items are dated so you know when you are due to complete the intention
As part of its CPD communities services, the CPD Team at Education Scotland will support you by email by:
1. acknowledging your intention
2. reminding you on, or around, the due date
3. thanking you for completion and reminding you of the power of sharing evidence!

CPDCentral is an online community for all Scottish educators on Glow. If you’re looking for innovative CPD and want to share CPD practice with other educators, then this is the community to join.
On CPDCentral, you can:
- find and contact like-minded colleagues from across Scotland
- access interesting practice shared by CPDCentral members; videos, presentations, documents, etc
- take part in the weekly online seminars (CPDMeets) on a variety of topics
- take part in online discussions on the CPDCentral forum
- ask (and get answers to) your CPD questions
Who can join CPDCentral?
Any Scottish educator can join (teacher, adviser, early years practitioner, learning assistant, you name it!) .
How much does it cost?
Nothing at all! However, you have to commit to a bit of collegiality before you join. You must:
- upload a photograph and introduce yourself to the CPDCentral members gallery
- agree to at least some collegiate activities over the next year. All of these count as collegiate activities:
- uploading an item of interesting practice
- sharing an idea, intention, issue or insight
- starting, or contributing to, a discussion
- taking part in, or leading, a CPDMeet
OK, how do I join CPDCentral?
1. Make sure you have a photograph of yourself on your computer
2. Make sure you have your Glow username and password handy
3. Have a look at the Terms & Conditions and pick an appropriate button at the bottom
