A CPD-focussed community which uses some or all of the CPDCentral features to ‘crank up’ the collegiality in the community. If I am a potential member of a CPD community, there are a number of benefits:
I introduce myself just the once and can then take part in several CPD communities
I can upload an item and share it across across several appropriate CPD programmes / communities
it standardises the way I engage with CPD on Glow and removes some of the barriers to collegiality
For CPD community facilitators, there are benefits too:
it cuts down time on footering with Glow web-parts and lets you concentrate on the CPD
the I-intend system helps promote real, evidenced impact from your all hard work; “if it’s not happening in the classroom, it’s not happening” – Richard Elmore
it increases interaction; “lurking is not a collegiate activity” – Con Morris
If you want to register for / learn more about CPDCentral affiliation, you can find out more on (you’ve guessed it!) CPDCentral!
I-intend is one of the services available to members of CPDCentral. Using this feature, you can declare intentions and share them with other members of CPDCentral. All items are dated so you know when you are due to complete the intention
As part of its CPD communities services, the CPD Team at Education Scotland will support you by email by:
1. acknowledging your intention
2. reminding you on, or around, the due date
3. thanking you for completion and reminding you of the power of sharing evidence!
The best type of CPD is collegiate and it’s no different on Glow. The CPD Team have developed an About Us system that lets colleagues introduce themselves once and then ‘appear’ in any CPD opportunity they take part in.
Here’s how it works:
1. You enrol in the CPDMeet or other opportunity
2. Our admin folk get an alert and we will add the CPD opportunity to your About Us entry
3. When you click on ‘See participants’ you will see pictures of all who have / are taking part
Isn’t it great when you go to a CPD event in person and you see people and are introduced to them. To help us get that feeling, enrolling in one of our online CPD opportunities is in two parts.
Part 1 – All members of CPD communities on Glow must introduce themselves with a photograph and details using the About Us web part. If you haven’t already done so, then please fill in this form as soon as possible. You only need to do this once!
Part 2 – for each of the CPD opportunities:
select the enrol button (eg for a CPDMeet).
the organiser will ‘add’ you to the opportunity just as if you are attending a face-to-face event.
When this is done, your details will appear on the About Us section for that opportunity
Note this may take a wee bit of time, so in the meantime, you can continue with the CPD opportunity or edit it yourself on your CPDMe page on CPDCentral! Look for the my participation section
There are a number of actions you might want to take to follow up a CPD opportunity using Glow. This help post supports the use of the ‘follow-up’ panel on CPDMeets and other CPD opportunities on Glow
Say thank you
Select this to send a wee email to the CPD leader or organiser of the opportunity. Many colleagues do this already and this will save you a wee bit time!
Add an intention
Members of the CPD communities on Glow are encouraged to declare an intention to the all of CPDCentral. There’s less chance of you forgetting to do it. These are usually displayed in date order on the community. You can see the CPDCentral intentions here
Endorse this opportunity
If you think a CPD opportunity will have a real impact on your practice, then maybe you should think of endorsing this opportunity. Others can then be better informed about their choice of CPD. More : How do I endorse an opportunity on CPDFind?
Add to your CPD record
If you keep your CPD profile on CPDReflect, selecting this link takes you to the ‘quick add’ option for the CPD record section. More : What is CPDReflect?
Find more …
Select this to find similar modes of CPD on CPDFind. For example, if you are coming from a CPDMeet it will list the CPDMeet opportunities catalogued on CPDFind.
Find more on this subject
Seelct this to search for the same subject on CPDFind. For example, if you are coming from a CPDMeet on interdisciplinary learning, it will list all the CPD opportunities that mention interdisciplinary learning on CPDFind.
Many CPD providers (such as local authority CPD managers) will be eligible to access Glow anyway.
There are contractual considerations that restrict unlimited access to Glow by other organisations (eg providers in the private sector).
However, CPD providers are allowed on Glow if they are working with one of the local authorities or other client groups of Glow (eg SQA, LTScotland, HMIE). It’s analogous to the CPD providers’ use of school premises. If they are doing a CPD session in a local authority, they will be given guest access to that room. Similarly, CPD providers who are working with an LA, can be given guest access to the LA Glow area at the discretion of the authority.
A CPD provider working with a national organisation, such as LTScotland, will have national guest access. Any provider using Glow in this way must have Disclosure Scotland status.
Since 2007, Scottish Government has sponsored a Summer School on Leadership. To accompany the 2010 event, Creating leadership capacity for system-wide change, the National CPD Team are facilitating an online community on Glow. The aim of the group is to continue the impetus for system-wide change which was started at the event.
Who can join the Summer School on Glow?
Anyone who attended the 2010 event in person or online
Colleagues who have been sponsored by the above attendees
Previous attendees of Summer Schools
The membership has been limited to help us focus on the impact of the Summer Schools on leadership capacity. If you think you are eligible to join this community, please contact Susan s.lafferty@ltscotland.org.uk
What can I do in this community?
In this community, you can:
make or renew contact with like-minded colleagues from across Scotland
access videos of most of the key presentations
access interesting practice shared by Summer School on Glow members; videos, presentations, documents, etc
declare your own intentions and study the intentions of others
take part in online discussions on the forum
The wee video above will give you a flavour of what’s happening on the Glow group.
How much does it cost?
Nothing at all! However, you have to commit to a bit of collegiality before you join. You must:
upload a photograph and introduce yourself to the members’ gallery
agree to at least 3 collegiate activities. Examples of collegiate activities include:
