If you are creating a CPDShort, the content can be just about anything. Some examples below and we will add some ‘how to’ links to this post as we go along
- video from YouTube, Vimeo, Ted Talks, Education Scotland site. (Hint : copy the embed code and put into an XML web part on the CPDShort page)
- PDF, Word document, Keynote or Powerpoint presentation (Hint: Add the document to the I-share area and link in a Text editor web part)
- resources (like local CPD toolkits) not on Glow or the Web. (Hint: Describe where the resources can be found in a few words in a Text Editor web part)

The best type of CPD is collegiate and it’s no different on Glow. The CPD Team have developed an About Us system that lets colleagues introduce themselves once and then ‘appear’ in any CPD opportunity they take part in.
Here’s how it works:
1. You enrol in the CPDMeet or other opportunity
2. Our admin folk get an alert and we will add the CPD opportunity to your About Us entry
3. When you click on ‘See participants’ you will see pictures of all who have / are taking part
More: Why should I introduce myself to a CPD community? How do introduce myself to a CPD community? See who has already joined About Us

CPDCentral is an online community for all Scottish educators on Glow. If you’re looking for innovative CPD and want to share CPD practice with other educators, then this is the community to join.
On CPDCentral, you can:
- find and contact like-minded colleagues from across Scotland
- access interesting practice shared by CPDCentral members; videos, presentations, documents, etc
- take part in the weekly online seminars (CPDMeets) on a variety of topics
- take part in online discussions on the CPDCentral forum
- ask (and get answers to) your CPD questions
Who can join CPDCentral?
Any Scottish educator can join (teacher, adviser, early years practitioner, learning assistant, you name it!) .
How much does it cost?
Nothing at all! However, you have to commit to a bit of collegiality before you join. You must:
- upload a photograph and introduce yourself to the CPDCentral members gallery
- agree to at least some collegiate activities over the next year. All of these count as collegiate activities:
- uploading an item of interesting practice
- sharing an idea, intention, issue or insight
- starting, or contributing to, a discussion
- taking part in, or leading, a CPDMeet
OK, how do I join CPDCentral?
1. Make sure you have a photograph of yourself on your computer
2. Make sure you have your Glow username and password handy
3. Have a look at the Terms & Conditions and pick an appropriate button at the bottom

CPDShorts are thought-pieces on Glow with accompanying discussion points and activities. In a CPDShort opportunity, you can:
- study and reflect on a think-piece (usually a video clip, an audio clip or a short document)
- record your thoughts on the matter
- discuss or raise key questions
- find like-minded colleagues who have taken part in the same CPDShort as you.
You can find a few examples of CPDShorts on in CPDFind (just enter cpdshort in the search box). You will also find details on how to take part in the CPDShort. You will find a complete set of CPDShorts on the Online CPD Library on CPDCentral (needs Glow username)
If you have a think-piece that you would like to see become a CPDShort, contact cpdanswers@ltscotland.org.uk and we’ll help you to build it and get it into CPDFind.
