How do I use the CPDFind providers’ area?

We have taken recent steps to simplify the user interface for registered CPD providers.

Step 1 – Login to the system on the provider home page

If you have forgotten your password, please use the forgotten password link. If you have forgotten your user name please contact cpdregister@educationscotland.gov.uk

Step 2 – Use the left-hand navigation to complete other tasks;

CPDFind home - takes you back to the home page

Provider home – takes you back to the login page

Change password – always change the first password you have been given.

Add opportunity – add a new CPD opportunity. This can be done in one-screen now

My opportunities – list and edit all your CPD opportunities. Note that you can add several occurrences for one opportunity, so no need to put details more than once.

My details – Edit your provider details. Please make sure you provide full details, including Disclosure Scotland status.

Step 3 – Wait!

Any changes made to your opportunities or details take a few hours to ‘come through’. The database relies on the building of an index which is only done every few hours. This improves the response time to the CPDFind users, Scottish educators

If you have any questions, please contact cpdregister@educationscotland.gov.uk

How can I follow-up CPD opportunities on Glow?

Comments: none

There are a number of actions you might want to take to follow up a CPD opportunity using Glow. This help post supports the use of the ‘follow-up’ panel on CPDMeets and other CPD opportunities on Glow

Say thank you

Select this to send a wee email to the CPD leader or organiser of the opportunity. Many colleagues do this already and this will save you a wee bit time!

Add an intention

Members of the CPD communities on Glow are encouraged to declare an intention to the all of CPDCentral. There’s less chance of you forgetting to do it. These are usually displayed in date order on the community. You can see the CPDCentral intentions here

Endorse this opportunity

If you think a CPD opportunity will have a real impact on your practice, then maybe you should think of endorsing this opportunity. Others can then be better informed about their choice of CPD. More : How do I endorse an opportunity on CPDFind?

Add to your CPD record

If you keep your CPD profile on CPDReflect, selecting this link takes you to the ‘quick add’ option for the CPD record section.  More : What is CPDReflect?

Find more …

Select this to find similar modes of CPD on CPDFind. For example, if you are coming from a CPDMeet it will list the CPDMeet opportunities catalogued on CPDFind.

Find more on this subject

Seelct this to search for the same subject on CPDFind. For example, if you are coming from a CPDMeet on interdisciplinary learning, it will list all the CPD opportunities that mention  interdisciplinary learning on CPDFind.

Why are my details not appearing on the A-Z?

Comments: none

In September 2010, we started a review of CPD providers details on the system. If a provider’s area contains a link to an out-of-date website and there is no evidence of opportunities, then they have been removed from the A to Z of providers.

The main reason for this was to avoid inconvenience to users who are clicking on broken links and out-of-date information.

Please note you are still a registered provider and to reinstate your listing and allow educators to see your details, all you have to do is:

Can CPD providers get access to Glow?

Comments: none

The answer is a qualified “Yes”.

Many CPD providers (such as local authority CPD managers) will be eligible to access Glow anyway.

There are contractual considerations that restrict unlimited access to Glow by other organisations (eg providers in the private sector).

However, CPD providers are allowed on Glow if they are working with one of the local authorities or other client groups of Glow (eg SQA, LTScotland, HMIE). It’s analogous to the CPD providers’ use of school premises. If they are doing a CPD session in a local authority, they will be given guest access to that room. Similarly, CPD providers who are working with an LA, can be given guest access to the LA Glow area at the discretion of the authority.

A CPD provider working with a national organisation, such as LTScotland, will have national guest access. Any provider using Glow in this way must have Disclosure Scotland status.

Many local authorities have procedures in place to allow guest access. Details of the key contacts for each LA can be found here:

Please contact CPD Register admin (cpdregister@LTScotland.org.uk) for more information on becoming a registered CPD provider. It’s as simple as that! The next stages are

  1. You will receive an application form and a request asking for 2 referees
  2. When the form is returned, the referees will be asked to complete a short reference
  3. If all is well, then you will be admitted onto the Register and you can enter opportunities directly into the CPDFind database

New to CPDFind?

CPDFind is a national database of CPD opportunities which has been developed as part of the collaboration between the National CPD Team and LTScotland.

If you are looking for CPD, for most users it’s usually a 3 – step process:

  1. type in a search termCPDFind will search the database of CPD opportunities to let you…
  2. browse the results and add the ones that interest you to a wishlist. You can then…
  3. email or download the wishlist for your CPD plan

The short video below outlines a typical search. Please note that while the site look has changed slightly since we created this video, the functionality hasn’t!

I am not yet employed by a local authority. How can I access CPD?

Most of the CPD funding available is devolved to local authorities. This can, of course, make it difficult for supply teachers and others not currently employed to access CPD.

Your first step should be to join CPDStepin. This is a professional community on Glow for supply, under-employed or unemployed teachers. See this CPDAnswers post for more details.

CPDFind contains a wide range of CPD opportunities and much of it is free. Just type in a CPD topic into the search box to get started.

Another option is to contact CPD managers from nearby local authorities to see if it is possible to attend CPD events. You will find an up-to-date list of CPD managers on the CPD Team website.
