Why are my details not appearing on the A-Z?

Comments: none

In September 2010, we started a review of CPD providers details on the system. If a provider’s area contains a link to an out-of-date website and there is no evidence of opportunities, then they have been removed from the A to Z of providers.

The main reason for this was to avoid inconvenience to users who are clicking on broken links and out-of-date information.

Please note you are still a registered provider and to reinstate your listing and allow educators to see your details, all you have to do is:

Can CPD providers get access to Glow?

Comments: none

The answer is a qualified “Yes”.

Many CPD providers (such as local authority CPD managers) will be eligible to access Glow anyway.

There are contractual considerations that restrict unlimited access to Glow by other organisations (eg providers in the private sector).

However, CPD providers are allowed on Glow if they are working with one of the local authorities or other client groups of Glow (eg SQA, LTScotland, HMIE). It’s analogous to the CPD providers’ use of school premises. If they are doing a CPD session in a local authority, they will be given guest access to that room. Similarly, CPD providers who are working with an LA, can be given guest access to the LA Glow area at the discretion of the authority.

A CPD provider working with a national organisation, such as LTScotland, will have national guest access. Any provider using Glow in this way must have Disclosure Scotland status.

Many local authorities have procedures in place to allow guest access. Details of the key contacts for each LA can be found here:

I have just added some opportunities and when I search they don’t appear!

Comments: none

It takes some time for the database servers to index themselves. This is usually about 2 hours but at busy periods it may be longer. If the opportunities still haven’t appeared by the next day please drop us a line at cpdregister@ltscotland.org.uk and we will investigate.

Does CPDFind cater for online CPD providers?

Comments: none

Yes! We have a number of providers (some outwith Scotland) who provide online CPD, for example OpenSource CPD, Hibernia College and The Open University.

Can the CPD Team arrange for us to email all the CPD providers?

Comments: none

Unfortunately, we can’t release our database of CPD provider email addresses but, since all of them have published contact information on the site, there is nothing to stop you trawling through the A to Z of providers and picking them up yourself.

How is CPDFind kept up to date?

Comments: none

It is the responsibility of the individual CPD providers to maintain their opportunities. We provide a management system for them to add, edit and delete opportunities. In addition, any dated occurrences are automatically deleted when the date passes.

If you see information that is out of date on CPDFind, please let us know (cpdanswers@ltscotland.org.uk) and we will take steps to remedy the situation!

How do I download the registered CPD Providers Logo?

This logo is only available for use to registered providers and is, therefore, not on the public-facing site.

If you log in as a provider, you will see a button marked Resources.  Select that to view and download the various types of logo available. There are print as well as web site versions.

Do you know any providers who deliver CPD in podcasting or blogging?

Comments: none

Yes there are a number who deliver in this increasingly popular area. Just do a search for podcast and/or blogging in the CPDFind search page.

The CPDFind button to link to your site does not work on my own site.

Comments: none

We will do our best to help (even though we cannot guarantee to know the workings of all web site editing systems!). Please drop us a line at cpdanswers@ltscotland.org.uk.

How do we optimise the search results?

Comments: none

CPDFind is devised to give a fair ‘crack at the whip’ to all providers. If a user types in a search term (eg behaviour) it will return first those opportunities with:

  • behaviour in the title
  • then behaviour  in the key words
  • then behaviour in any other part of the opportunity

To optimise the search results, make sure that you use your 5 key words wisely!
