A festival of learning… even before it starts!

Welcome to the Scottish Learning FestivalIt may now be called the Scottish Learning Festival and the word “technology” no longer features in its name but thanks to technology I’m already learning… and it’s still two days until the show opens!

For me, the learning started when I heard that this year the Festival would feature on Facebook, the social networking craze for teens and adults alike. So I set up my own facebook presence so I could register an interest and watch what was going on (you need to be registered, too, to see me, such is the ’social’ nature of the ’social’ network).

Through Facebook, I could also read about two fringe events: In the Wild and TeachMeet07 - 4th Edition. Of course, I can read about these events elsewhere (for example, the TeachMeet site) but in the Facebook site I can see who is attending and begin to communicate with them before the event starts. I was learning, learning about the events but also learning about how Facebook worked and the power of social networking.
